I have recently scanned in a bunch of my typographic sketches, which will eventually be vectorized and possibly screen printed in some way in the near future.

Moving Presses

Posted by Chase in Words

You don’t really know how heavy 1200 lbs is until you almost have a roof fall on you. This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to move three of these 1200 pound monsters in the form of two Chandler & Price platen presses and one C & P industrial paper cutter from a shed located in Asheville, NC. Best of all, the presses were free. I say free very loosely. As the first sentence indicates, our lives quickly became the price at one point.

With the help of some kick ass in-laws and friends, they have found a safe and sound home in the mountains of North Carolina for the time being. Question is now what to do with these ladies. A design house/letterpress shop/photography studio is ideal. Maybe say, in North Carolina somewhere? I don’t know. We need a good name and a spot to put it. Plus, some experience managing a business may help…

New Field Notes. New Sketches.

Posted by Chase in Design, Process, Typography

About a week ago, I recieved my Packet of Sunshine Limited Edition Fields Notes, complete with Marigold seeds and All-Purpose Band of Rubber. I’ve been buying Field Notes material for a while now, but never jumped on the colors bandwagon until now. Needless to say that the subscription cost is quite pricey at a cool 129 bucks, but the end collection is quite impressive.

Below are a couple new sketches from one of the new packet of sunshine books:

Found these little gems at the thrift shop today. The illustrations and typography in them are great. Hope to keep them around for inspiration/casual reading/future baby books.

Lost: The Final Season

Posted by Chase in Television, Words

I officially dork out at times like this. Even though a show that started out as one of the most promising mystery/adventure television series, has become somewhat of a watered down version of it’s own once grand image. There have been highlights, of course: To this day, the Season 2 opener has to be one of the most clever things I’ve seen on TV. The end of the episode “Walkabout”. And I have to admit, when they showed the blast door map, I scoured the web for hours looking for images to make sense of the thing.

And then there’s the letdowns: The dharma shark. The smoke monster that absolutely pisses me off, especially when it forms into fists and kills people by banging them into trees. The island disappearing after the turn of some magic wheel in a well, all while Michael Emerson cries was probably the most cringe inducing scene I’ve ever watched.

But, regardless of all that has happened, I find myself still glued to the television with mandatory silence. Why? I’m not really sure. But you can bet come a week from today on February 2nd, I’ll be right there with the rest of fanclub LOST – ready for answers, whether they be good, bad, or ugly as shit.

This guy has one of the best jobs in the world in my opinion. A style that is unique, and a meticulous eye to match it.
